About the Role
The engineer will help strengthen and evolve Netflix’s enterprise authentication systems. The work involves designing secure, scalable, and user-friendly authentication solutions such as passwordless login, phishing-resistant MFA, and Single Sign-On (SSO). The focus is on building customized systems that balance strong security with smooth user experiences.
The role offers high autonomy, allowing engineers to make major technical decisions and influence the security direction of the company. It’s ideal for someone who enjoys creative problem-solving in complex environments and wants to contribute to how Netflix stays secure while scaling globally.
Key Responsibilities
- Build and improve authentication systems like passkeys, OAuth2, SSO, and MFA.
- Use technologies such as Okta, Terraform, and modern programming languages (e.g., Java, Go, Python, Rust).
- Design and manage cloud-based systems on AWS, GCP, or Azure.
- Work across teams to create efficient, company-wide security solutions.
- Identify opportunities to improve existing security practices.
Skills and Qualifications
- Strong programming skills in one or more modern languages.
- Experience developing or maintaining SSO and identity systems.
- Knowledge of standards such as OIDC, SAML 2.0, and FIDO2/WebAuthn.
- Experience with infrastructure-as-code tools like Terraform.
- Ability to communicate technical ideas clearly and work independently.
Preferred Experience
- Knowledge of NoSQL databases and analytical tools such as Spark or Hive.
- Familiarity with frontend technologies like React.
- Experience with automated testing and data dashboards.
Compensation and Benefits
The salary range for this role is between $100,000 and $720,000 annually, depending on expertise and experience. Netflix allows employees to choose the balance between salary and stock options.
